Assignment #6: Zip Code Project/ Sense of Place. ‘An International Perspective of Warrensburg, MO (64093)’.

From England to Warrensburg, Missouri this is a comparison between the two countries and my international perspective. The following includes three pictures from England compared with three from Warrensburg, and they each show contrasting and similar themes between the two places.

Wollaton Hall is a 16th century country house located in Nottinghamshire, U.K. .The historic mansion was recently featured in the 2012 film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, as the new Wayne Manor.

The Morrow building is located on the University of Central Missouri campus in Warrensburg, Missouri, U.S.. Compared to Wollaton Hall in the U.K., both are elegant older structures, however the Morrow building has been recently renovated to look newer, whereas Wollaton Hall still maintains it’s original structure.

Covent Garden in London, U.K., is famous for having many street performers which draw large crowds, due to their strange and bizarre acts. Here, a man dressed as batman sits still like a statue, and then jumps up to scare passers by who leave him money.

There is always some form of event happening on the UCM campus which gets all of the students involved, and this is what makes an American university so different from other countries. Here members of a fraternity camp out in front of the student union to raise money for charity, and although this may seem strange to non- college students, it is part of their everyday lives to be involved in different events.

London, U.K. was the most recent host for the 2012 Olympics, which drew in millions of visitors to the nations capital. The Olympic rings give passers by a sense of pride, as they take center stage at St. Pancras train station.

Downtown Warrensburg is where students flock for the vibrant nightlife, as it’s home to all of the towns bars and restaurants. New bars are opening all the time, and here a new one called ‘warehouse’ is getting ready to open, which will surely be a hit among everyone at UCM.

Store manager of the University of Central Missouri pack and ship, Jona Still, boasts about how she loves her job, stating that she makes ‘mad money’. After 8 months of working there,sorting through parcels and posting items, Jona still finds time for her number one passion, John Wayne.

Assignment #2 -Street Portraits: Breaking the Ice

The aim of this assignment was to take 5 portrait photographs of people who I had never met before. The theme of people I took photographs of were women who were at the University of Central Missouri campus.

 

Originally from Oregon, Missouri, Micaela attends UCM and majors in Psychology. An interesting fact about her, is that she used to swim competitively for a Summer league in her home town, and she ‘even won medals’ for them.

Destiny Young likes to describe her personality as ‘artistic’, and it’s no surprise then that her major at UCM is Art. Hailing from Kearney, Missouri, Destiny says her ‘favorite thing to do is ride horses’, and she owns one called Quarter Horse.

Pam Huff from Harrisonville, Missouri, is an employee of UCM, and works part-time at the bookstore. She is actually a retired 8th grade math teacher, and likes to work at UCM to fill up her spare time.

Majoring in interior design at UCM, Airan Wade from Independence, Missouri, sits outside reading a book, deep in thought in this picture. She ‘likes to be around nature’ which is why she studies outside, loves animals, and owns 3 cats.

Jordan Gott from Lexington, Missouri, majors in Communications at UCM. An interesting fact about her, is that she is the only female contractor in the Warrensburg area.
